What is PRICE?
The Parent’s Role in Children’s Education (PRICE) Committee was organized here in Summers County Schools to help increase and improve parental involvement in our school system. The group of dedicated parents realizes that parents play a very important role in assisting their children’s learning. Many research studies have shown that students with involved parents are more likely to earn higher grades, pass their classes, attend school regularly, have better skills, graduate, and go on to further education. One of the main researchers on parental involvement, Joyce Epstein, proposed six areas in which parents can work with the schools. Those areas are: communication between home and school, parenting, student learning at home, volunteering, decision making/advocacy, and collaboration/ community. The goal of the school system is to develop a parental involvement program that covers each of these areas so that our students will get the greatest benefit possible from the involvement of their parents in their education.
